Who is Sanni Beucke?
Susann “Sanni” Beucke is a professional sailor from Germany. Born and raised in Kiel, she started sailing at the age of seven and has been dedicating her life to the sea ever since.
Sanni started to make a splash in competitive sailing in 2017, when she won the European championship.
This was followed by a number of other fantastic results, amongst them 5th place at the world championship in 2019, 1st place at Kiel Week in 2020, as well as winning the European championships in 2020.
Her biggest success, however, came at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where she won the silver medal in the 49er FX women event – Germany’s best result in 21 years. This would conclude her career as an Olympic athlete and become her new starting point as an offshore sailor.

BayWa r.e. is proud to partner with Sanni as, powered by the wind and the sun, she embarks on an incredible new career in offshore sailing. Sanni’s campaign, This Race Is Female, is an inspiration to us all and is about expanding beyond boundaries, and having the courage to break the mould. Chime in to learn more!
Conquering new horizons
Sanni’s new goal is also extremely ambitious: she wants to become the first German woman to win the “Vendée Globe”. This is a non-stop, unassisted, singlehanded round-the-world race – the holy grail for solo sailors.
It covers close to 45,000 kilometres and can last up to two and a half months, during which the sailor is alone on the boat. This is an incredibly demanding event, both physically and mentally, dominated by male competitors.
This race is female: making women more visible
With her campaign This Race Is Female, Sanni wants to inspire and empower other women to go their own way. For her, this means having the courage to break the mould, especially in areas that are dominated by males – like sailing, but also certain job fields.
Sanni is currently gathering her crew for breaking through the stigma of limited rights and opportunities. Check back regularly for news about her latest successes.
"Women need strong role models. For me, that is my mother, who is also a sailor herself and who taught me how to believe in myself. I want to pass that on to other women."
Breaking stereotypes
But like BayWa r.e., Sanni r.e.thinks what is possible and keeps pushing boundaries. That is why we are proud to be her sponsor: we believe that challenging the status quo and using sun and wind to achieve this perfectly translates BayWa r.e.’s mission of making the world a better place with renewable energy.
BayWa r.e. is happy to have Sanni on board. Together, we want to make waves in the renewable energy and sailing world by raising awareness for sustainability and promoting gender equality in sports, career, and daily life.
